Universities come as one of the service organizations whose role should not be limited to education, although it represents its basic mission that everyone knows of the great importance it entails in building the individual and society. Rather, its role extends to society, as a solution to its problems, and as a contribution to its development, and this is what it does. The University of Science and Technology diligently, which we will discuss here:
Community service at the University of Science and Technology
Since its founding in 1994, the University of Science and Technology has given community service special importance within all its governing literature, its executive and strategic plans, and its scientific educational, extracurricular, and research activities. The institutional culture that the university has been working on and including since its inception.
The university provided a lot of community services in its former main center in Sana’a - before stopping recognition of it - and its branches in Ibb, Taiz, Hodeidah, Aden and Hadramout, and then continued to provide its services in its current main center in Aden, and its two branches in Taiz Al-Madinah and Hadramout, after the recognition of the main center was stopped. - Program for Gifted and Talented Students in Schools: This is done by identifying the needs and tendencies of the learners, then caring for and qualifying them. The family and parents are in the custody and care of these talents.
- Quality of school education: The center contributes to improving the quality of school education and bringing about continuous improvement in the performance of educational institutions, by evaluating the performance of schools according to procedural steps and based on the reference of quality and accreditation standards, where information and data are collected on school performance in the current situation and compared to quality standards.
- Innovation and Scientific Excellence Award: The Excellence Development Center annually organizes an award for innovation and scientific excellence in the following fields: (physics, chemistry, biology, environment, computer) for innovators from school students, where students present their innovations to a specialized jury, so that the winners of the first three ranks are honored within Activities of the Scientific Symposium for Gifted and Talented Care.

- Consulting and Development Center
The Center for Consultation and Development at the University of Science and Technology, a leading center in the field of training and consulting services at the level of Yemen, was established by University Council Resolution No. (16) of 1996, and licensed to practice work from the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training No. (71) dated 8/27/2002 AD, It has branches in the largest Yemeni governorates, and since its inception, the center has been carrying out its mission in the field of training, consultations, and studies for various organizations and individuals, thus achieving part of the mission and goals of the university in the field of community service, individuals and institutions.
- computer center
The university established the Computer Center for Training and Systems; To provide distinguished services to the community through training and consultations in various computer, network and information technology disciplines. It is a training and testing center accredited by the European and international ICDL organization.
The center adopts specialized curricula prepared by specialized and internationally accredited companies, and provides practical training laboratories equipped with the latest equipment according to international standards.
During the period of operation of the center, it provided training services in various computer fields to more than 3000 trainees.
- Language Center
The center was established in 2009, bearing in mind its vision of excellence in teaching English locally and regionally. To become one of the most important and prominent language centers in Yemen, as it constantly strives to improve the quality of education, and it also worked as a community service center affiliated with the university, and through it the university aimed at a number of goals, including:
Supplying the labor market with qualified and highly qualified graduates in the field of the English language.

The center has held more than 100 training courses within the framework of each course of more than (18) different levels of English language, which it has presented since its establishment to more than 20,000 trainees with nominal fees, especially for high school graduates as part of its offerings to them.
The center contributed to qualifying young people for the labor market as well as for the university level, and many students were able to obtain scholarships in regional and international universities thanks to their training in the field of English language at the center.
Among the programs and services of the center: the general English language program that qualifies for TOEFL, the TOEFL preparatory program, the professional translation diploma, the professional teacher program, the summer program for young people, and specialized courses.
- Medical Training Center

Therefore, the university has paid special attention to reading within the context of its endeavors to serve the community, and this interest is represented in the beginning by consolidating reading as a core skill within the university curriculum, and then by adopting reading in extra-curricular activities such as scientific seminars that it holds, and activities that are held through student affairs, and student clubs, especially Read Club, which we will discuss in the following lines:
Read Club as a model for the interest of the University of Science and Technology in reading
Iqraa Club is one of the student clubs founded by university students, under the supervision of Student Affairs. It is a club specialized in holding various reading activities at the university, spreading the culture of reading among students, and creating effective means to increase the level of reading among students. The club has its branches that are distributed to all branches of the university. He also made special contributions in the field of reading, which must be elaborated on due to their essential importance:
Discussion sessions: These are periodic meetings, often monthly, in which club members and other interested students meet to discuss the book they agreed to read in the last session.
Each session has a moderator for the discussion who is chosen in advance, and a guest for the discussion, who is often a person who specializes in the subject of the read book, or in his own field and gender, or the author of the book personally, and the discussion takes place between the attendees and the guest; In a way that enriches the read material, subject it to scrutiny and study, and multiplies the desired benefit, as well as gives everyone a variety of perspectives on the subject of the read book.
In these sessions, I read prestigious books on thought, psychology, sociology, and books and novels of fundamental importance.
- Nuqat Conference: Nuqat Conference was held from 4 to 6 February 2019 AD, and it was scheduled to turn into an annual activity. It was announced as the first conference for readers, and witnessed a huge attendance in all its sessions.
A group of intellectuals from Yemen participated in the conference, in which they presented topics of interest to the reader, the writer, and the intellectual in the Yemeni context. Some topics related to knowledge formation, specialized reading, reading the novel, and reading in light of the technological acceleration were also discussed. The experiences of some authors were also discussed, and other topics. activities.
- Restoration project: It is one of the most important projects adopted by the club. It was presented as part of the Iqraa Club projects as one of the exits through which the Iqraa Club seeks to prepare a generation of readers who understand the importance of reading. To grow up with sound thinking that contributes to the advancement of his society and nation. The most important of its objectives is to develop public awareness of the reality of reading and the need to improve it, build a network of readers and activate communication between them to build and draw a clear and gradual methodology in round reading, as well as making reading a social experience and a societal culture. The project was divided into four phases: introductory, foundational, training, and self-education. .
- Reading track challenge: which was held for all university students, and it includes several stages / qualifiers, after which the champion of the reading track challenge is chosen.
- Training courses: These include courses of an administrative nature for each new administrative body of the club, and open skill courses for anyone who wants to join them, including reading skills and mechanisms, which have been held several times so that the student can begin his reading journey with insight.
- - Revival of international days, headed by the World Book and Copyright Day, and the Arabic Language Day, during which several activities are held, including a book fair, hosting specialists, artistic performances, and others.
- e-Discussions: These were discussions that were held on the club’s page and through its groups on WhatsApp, and its topic and the guest discussed were determined in advance. Among the topics discussed: the impact of cinema on culture.
Reading and community service
The university has many contributions in spreading reading awareness, whether through activities with other parties, or through activities set up by the Iqra Club in order to spread the culture of reading within the framework of Yemeni society. Where the club held many events with parties outside the university, including the project “breaks” of reading and art, in which the club, in cooperation with the Al-Wafi Center for Artistic and Media Training, held a discussion session for the novel (The Kite Runner), in the presence of a number of artists and interested people.
The university also held a tournament to challenge reading for schools, events to celebrate student authors, and the establishment of a knowledge corner in some schools, in which some paragraphs were presented on reading, reading for children, and so on, in addition to many other activities.

The University of Science and Technology established its university hospital in 2006, and the hospital provided various and pioneering medical and health services, and it was among the units that were controlled with the former main center in Sana’a and the branches under its control. In addition to distinguished medical technology, and medical personnel who are at the highest levels of scientific excellence and competence.
