Medical Laboratories Program implements an activity on occupational safety in medical laboratories

The Department of Health Sciences - Medical Laboratories Program at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, implemented a specialized training course on occupational safety in medical laboratories. The course targeted fourth-level students in the laboratory specialization.

The course was moderated by Dr. Nazih Al-Abed. The course covered the most important procedures that must be followed to ensure the safety of laboratory workers and protect the surrounding environment, including the use of personal protective equipment, and procedures for safe handling of chemicals and biological samples.

After the course, the fourth-level students in the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program organized a comprehensive awareness campaign to introduce university members to the principles and guidelines of occupational safety in medical laboratories. The students toured the university’s laboratories and halls, the offices of the academic and administrative departments, the deanships, the university presidency office, and all the offices of faculty members and university employees. During this campaign, the students presented the most important safety procedures that must be followed in laboratories, and distributed awareness brochures and safety tools such as masks and gloves; with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of adhering to occupational safety procedures.

The students excelled in the campaign by wearing personal protective equipment, including masks, face shields, gloves, and other means of protection. An introductory exhibition was also prepared that included a display of various safety tools and instructions for their use, which contributed to enriching the event and expanding awareness of the importance of occupational safety in medical laboratories.

The management and implementation of this activity was supervised by the Department’s Field Training Officer, Dr. Mohammed Al-Lubni, and Microbiology Laboratory Technician, Dr. Abdul Rahman Majour, who provided the necessary guidance and support to the students to ensure that the campaign’s objectives were effectively achieved.
