Under the generous patronage of the Acting President of the University of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, the Department of Health Sciences - Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets Program at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden, organized a scientific symposium entitled: “Honey as a Functional Food between Theory and Application”, with the participation of an elite group of specialists in the field of beekeeping and honey production and those interested in this field.
The symposium was opened by the supervisor of the Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets Program, Dr. Taha Abdo Ali, who welcomed the attendees at the beginning of his speech, then addressed some important aspects of the uses of honey as a vital functional food for the body that improves the nutritional and health levels of different age groups, explaining the distinction of Yemeni honey in its quality and global standing, stressing the necessity of exploiting this field well by conducting more studies, research and scientific experiments and increasing effective investment opportunities; in order to reach advanced levels in the field of functional foods.
After that, the researcher and expert in bees and honey production, Dr. Ramzi Al-Ghalabi, gave a distinguished lecture that was well received by the attendees. In his lecture, he spoke about honey production, production methods, types of honey, and what are the healthy methods for producing honey that can be used as a functional food. The lecture included valuable interventions by a number of university professors, students, specialists and interested parties, including interventions by: Professor Dr. Samia Qutbi, Professor of Therapeutic Nutrition, Dr. Samir Muthanna, Director of the Marketing and Public Relations Department, Dr. Nazih Al-Abd, Head of the Department of Health Sciences, Dr. Manal Abdeen, a faculty member in the Therapeutic Nutrition Program, Dr. Essam Abdo Abdullah, a member of the Executive Office of the Agricultural Union, and Mr. Abdul Rahman Majour, among others; which indicated the importance of this field in the field of therapeutic nutrition.
The symposium was attended by the Vice President for Student Affairs, Community Centers and Branches, Dr. Munir Al-Abbadi.
