The Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Science and Technology is one of the leading and most prestigious faculties in Yemen. The faculty was established in 1994, becoming the first dental school at the university level in Yemen, both in public and private institutions.

This academic milestone underscores the university’s visionary commitment to providing exceptional medical education. The first cohort of the faculty’s students graduated in 1999, with the first three batches of graduates marking a significant milestone in the history of dentistry in Yemen, highlighting the pioneering academic legacy of this esteemed educational institution.

Program Mission

The dental program at the University of Science and Technology endeavors to prepare competent dental professionals furnished with the essential knowledge and skills to practice the profession efficiently, contributing to research and community service and enhancing the acquisition, dissemination, and development of oral health knowledge, highlighting long-life learning and evidence- based practice, while actively building strong local and international partnerships to achieve the program objectives.

Department Programs

Bachelor of Dentistry Program Overview

The Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery Program was established in 1994, and it is considered one of the first programs at the University of Science and Technology, where the first class graduated in 1999, and the first three batches graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry at the university are considered the first at the level of public and private universities in Yemen.

The courses included in the program are prepared and applied according to the quality system adopted by the university in accordance with international quality systems. The main objective of the program is to graduate a cadre capable of providing therapeutic and research services in the community, with the knowledge and skills it has acquired, as well as theoretical and practical experiences.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of biomedical, behavioral, medical, and dental sciences.
  •  Demonstrate understanding of ethical, legal, and occupational safety standards applicable to dental practice and community care.
  • Explain the fundamentals of prevention and the role of scientific research in promoting oral health at the community level.

  • Integrate knowledge from biomedical, behavioral, and dental sciences with clinical signs and symptoms to perform comprehensive examination, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment planning of dental conditions.

   The Bachelor of Dental Surgery program provides high-quality education to our students, carefully designed to align with the latest academic standards. The program spans five academic years, divided into ten semesters. The integrated curriculum comprises 207 credit hours, covering:

Internship Program

   The internship program at the main center in Aden commenced in 2023. Two cohorts have graduated so far, with the first cohort in 2023 consisting of approximately 100 students, while the second cohort in 2024 included around 120 students. Currently, the third cohort of the internship program in 2025 comprises approximately 160 students.

   The Department of Dentistry at the University of Science and Technology offers a Master’s Program in Dental Sciences, designed to build upon the knowledge and experience gained from the bachelor’s degree. The program has been conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry at Tanta University in Egypt since 2008. Two cohorts have graduated so far, with approximately 30 students specializing in various fields of dentistry.

The program aims to enhance students’ critical thinking and research skills. The scope of this degree focuses on improving healthcare outcomes and addressing challenges in the field of dentistry. Accordingly, the program is structured into six specialized tracks.:

    It is one of the modern educational facilities and is used to train students in clinical skills using realistic simulation models. This laboratory provides a safe environment equipped with the latest simulation technologies, preparing students to interact with patients confidently and competently.

    It is concerned with preparing the dental plaster models required for the diagnosis and treatment of cases. The laboratory also contributes to enhancing students’ practical skills at various stages of their studies.

    1. Dental Prosthetics Laboratory (Prosthodontics)

    It provides an advanced educational environment for teaching students the design and fabrication of various dental prostheses, such as crowns, bridges, and dentures.

    Clinics

    Clinics: Currently, there are 8 fully equipped clinics with the latest facilities, in addition to all the necessary materials for clinical training. Two new clinics are currently under construction, and preparations are underway to equip the university hospital to enhance clinical capabilities.

The program aims to provide the graduate with the dental knowledge necessary to meet the labor market’s needs of national health cadres specialized in dentistry, in a way that enables him to work in all dental functions, especially the following:

  • Medical industries related to dentistry, and work as delegates or scientific supervisors in dental materials and devices companies.

  • Supervisory positions in government departments and medical supplies at the Ministry of Health, government hospitals and clinics, and other government health facilities.

  • Supervisory positions in private medical institutions, and other medical professions related to dentistry.
