The University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, participated in the self-study program workshop, organized by the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education at Taiz University, during the period from November 18-19, 2024, under the slogan “Together towards academic accreditation.”
The university was represented in the workshop by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Rumaima, Dean of Development and Quality Assurance, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Shamiri, Academic Accreditation Officer for Medical Programs at the university. A number of public and private universities participated in the workshop with a group of academics and quality representatives. The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the Academic Accreditation Standards Guide, the tools needed to collect information about the self-assessment process, in addition to clarifying the steps for writing a self-report supported by evidence and proof.
At the opening of the workshop, the Chairperson of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Susan Bakhbira, stressed the importance of holding this workshop as one of the most important basic steps to achieve quality and academic accreditation, as it comes from a main starting point that paves the way for higher education institutions to obtain national and international accreditation, noting that the unprecedented scientific acceleration witnessed by the world requires everyone to keep pace with global developments and update and improve academic programs, in a way that contributes to advancing the educational process and improving its outcomes to compete in the local, regional and international labor market.
Bakhbira praised the efforts of Taiz University in hosting this workshop, which is an important step in the Council’s work path since its establishment in September 2023.
She also noted that the “Quality Weeks” that were recently launched in a number of governmental and private institutions, with the participation of a large number of professors, administrators and students, with the aim of spreading basic concepts in the quality system to develop academic and administrative performance and improve the educational process, are an excellent step in this direction.
The two-day workshop included a number of papers discussed by the participants, related to the self-study of academic program accreditation.
