University of Science and Technology receives a delegation from the Academic Accreditation Council to review the preparations of the Medicine and Surgery Program for programmatic accreditation
Today, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, received a delegation from the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education, which conducted an exploratory visit to see what has been accomplished regarding national medical accreditation and preparation for international accreditation.
The visiting delegation from the Academic Accreditation Council was headed by Prof. Dr. Susan Bakhbeera, Chairperson of the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education, along with members of the Council and members of the committee responsible for accreditation of medical programs, Prof. Dr. Hoda Omar Basalim, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al-Sabai, and Prof. Dr. Al-Aas Abdul Majeed Al-Abbadi.
The delegation was received by the Acting President of the University, Prof. Abdulghani Hamid Ahmed, along with the Assistant President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Muammar Al-Qatibi, the Dean of Development and Quality Assurance, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Rumaima, the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Fatima Qahtan, the Official for Academic Accreditation of Medical Programs, Dr. Muhammad Al-Shamiri, the Head of the Department of Basic Sciences, Dr. Fahmi Al-Aghbari, the Official for the Medicine and Surgery Program, Dr. Amira Abdul-Wasea Al-Hamidi, the Director of the Marketing and Public Relations Department, Dr. Samir Muthanna, and members of the committees preparing the self-study for the program.
At the beginning of the visit, the Acting President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, welcomed the delegation of the Academic Accreditation Council, appreciating this important visit, and explaining in his speech to the Council’s delegation the university’s efforts in preparing for academic programmatic accreditation for a number of the university’s programs, most notably the “Medicine and Surgery” program.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Susan Bakhbira, Head of the Council, expressed her happiness to visit the University of Science and Technology and see what has been accomplished in preparing for program accreditation. She emphasized the partnership between the Council and the University in various aspects and expressed support and cooperation with the University to achieve national academic accreditation and then international accreditation.
During the meeting, the Advisor to the Deanship of Development and Quality Assurance and the Official for Academic Accreditation in Medical Programs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Shamiri, gave a brief presentation to the visiting delegation, which included the steps the university had taken to obtain academic accreditation and the stages the university had gone through to prepare the self-study for the “Medicine and Surgery” program.
The Academic Accreditation Council delegation visited the University of Science and Technology Hospital, which the university intends to open soon. It also visited the classrooms, library, and laboratories of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, which are equipped with the latest medical equipment. It also visited the offices of the Deanship of Development and Quality Assurance and the Academic Accreditation Office.
At the end of the visit, the Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Council and the accompanying delegation praised the extent of the preparations and arrangements made within the framework of the university’s readiness to apply for accreditation of the “Medicine and Surgery” program and a number of other programs, expressing their admiration for what they saw of the university’s interest in adhering to the standards of quality and academic accreditation in its various programs, especially the Medicine and Surgery program, expressing their great satisfaction with the qualitative leap achieved by the university in quality and academic accreditation.
