The Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets Program conducts a field visit to the Elderly Care Home in Aden

The Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets Program at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, conducted a field visit to the Elderly and Old People's Home in Aden, on Monday, September 30, 2024.

The visit aimed to assess the nutritional status of the elderly, understand their nutritional needs, develop customized nutritional plans to meet their needs according to the chronic diseases they suffer from, provide advice and guidance to spread proper nutritional awareness among the elderly, and improve the quality of life of the elderly. This activity also aimed to enhance students’ understanding of how to apply nutrition principles in real-life situations, and learn how to deal with special groups in society.

The result of the visit was that the students presented many important proposals, including: analyzing the foods that the elderly currently eat, suggesting the necessary modifications to improve their nutritional quality, developing individual nutritional plans based on the health condition of each elderly person, suggesting healthy, balanced meals that contain important nutrients, organizing educational programs for the elderly and the home’s employees about the importance of healthy nutrition, and other proposals. 

The students were supervised during this field visit by Dr. Manal Abdeen Mohamed Ali and Dr. Hanan Mohamed Ghaleb.
