Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education and Vocational Training, Prof. Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al-Wasabi, the Ministry held a ceremony to honor the Yemeni universities that obtained the first three local places in the QS World Ranking for the year 2025, and to celebrate World Quality Day, on the morning of Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Grand Hall of the University of Science and Technology in Aden.
The ceremony was attended by: Undersecretary of the Ministry for Education Sector, Prof. Dr. Khaled Omar Basalim, President of Hadhramout University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khanbash, President of Sana'a University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hakim Al-Sharjabi, President of Amran University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Bakri, President of the University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, President of Al-Riyada University, Prof. Dr. Nahla Al-Kaaki, Director of the Arab Academy for Administrative, Financial and Banking Sciences, Prof. Dr. Murad Al-Nashmi, Director General of Civil Institutions at the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Lotfi Khanbari, Director of the Office of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Eng. Ramzi Saeed, and Director General of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Higher Education, Dr. Abdul Rahman Sabry.
The ceremony began with verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the ceremony segments, which began with an opening speech on behalf of the honored universities, delivered by the Acting President of the University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, who welcomed the attendees to the university, extending his thanks to the Ministry of Higher Education for holding this honoring ceremony, which embodies the Ministry’s interest in supporting and encouraging Yemeni universities to compete in the arena of international university rankings.
In his speech, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Khalid Al-Wosabi, praised the University of Science and Technology for hosting this celebration, congratulating the three top universities in the classification, and expressing the Ministry’s pride in this achievement; as it is an important achievement at the national level, stressing the Ministry’s role in following up on universities, noting that the Ministry is preparing at the beginning of next year 2025 to launch the national classification tool for local universities.
During the ceremony, the Dean of the Deanship of Development and Quality Assurance at the University of Science and Technology, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Rumaima, gave a brief presentation on the annual report on academic performance at the university for the academic year 2023-2024.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, honored the Yemeni universities that won the first places in the QS classification, namely: the University of Science and Technology in first place, Hadhramout University in second place, and Sana'a University in third place.
The University of Science and Technology also honored the departments that won first place in the academic performance evaluation for the year 2023-2024, in addition to honoring distinguished faculty members according to the evaluation results from the various colleges of the university.
