Within the community activities held by the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden, students of the Medical Laboratories Program - Level 4, carried out a field visit to Al-Manhaj School in Inmaa City in Aden; with the aim of enhancing health awareness among students.
The outreach included a series of educational and awareness-raising activities, which focused on public health, personal hygiene, and disease prevention.
Among the most prominent activities included in the visit were awareness sessions in medical laboratories, where students were introduced to the concept of medical laboratories, and the role of laboratories in maintaining public health was explained through laboratory tests, which detect diseases and help in their treatment.
Personal hygiene awareness sessions were also organized, focusing on the importance of personal hygiene and its impact on disease prevention. Students provided instructions on how to wash hands properly, the importance of taking care of body and dental hygiene, and explained ways to prevent infectious diseases, such as: adhering to vaccinations, following a healthy diet, and staying away from people with infectious diseases. The school students were also talked to about how to protect themselves from common diseases that may be transmitted in the school environment, and the means used for prevention were presented, such as: masks, sterilizers, and tissues, and how to use them correctly in their daily lives. In addition, laboratory students provided a set of health tips, such as: the importance of eating foods rich in vitamins, adhering to exercise, and drinking sufficient amounts of water daily.
The laboratory students created an atmosphere of fun and interaction by organizing competitions that included simple and interesting health questions, and awarding incentive prizes to students who answered correctly; which contributed to enhancing understanding and benefiting from health information in a fun and entertaining way.
At the end of this visit, the laboratory students expressed their happiness with the positive interaction they witnessed from the school’s administration and students, hoping that these activities would have a positive impact in improving students’ health behaviors.
