On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, students of the Department of Human Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden, in cooperation with the University's Marketing and Public Relations Department, held a diverse event on Thursday morning, October 31, 2024, aimed at highlighting the importance of mental health and how to work to enhance it.
The event was attended by the Acting President of the University, Prof. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, the Assistant President of the University for Student Affairs, Community Centers and Branches, Dr. Munir Al-Abbadi, and the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Fatima Qahtan.
During the event, Ms. Saida Khaled Marzouq, a student counseling specialist at the university, spoke about the most important psychological guidelines that students should follow, stressing in her speech the need to maintain students’ mental health. She also touched on psychological disorders, as well as rumors and facts regarding mental health.
The event included a large number of corners, including: a religion corner to highlight the positive psychological impact of religion, a mobile phone and social media addiction corner to warn of their dangers to mental health and the importance of real-life communication, a books corner to encourage reading and contribute to improving mood, a friendship corner to highlight the importance of social relationships and their positive psychological role, a colors corner for the different meanings they reflect and their role in improving the psychological aspect, and a tea corner to provide soothing drinks that help relax and calm the nerves.
The human medicine students presented distinguished awareness programmes to the attendees in each of the previous corners in a beautiful and simplified explanatory style.
The event included competitions for the attendees, and the presentation of wonderful gifts to them. It also included many artistic segments that revolved around the psychological aspect, highlighting this aspect through distinctive artistic and creative means, and it was well received by the attendees.
