Within the community activities implemented by the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, students of the Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets Program - Fourth Level, carried out a field visit to Al-Manhaj School in Aden; with the aim of enhancing nutritional and health awareness.
The outing included organizing interactive events, activities and lectures to educate school students about the importance of healthy food and its impact on growth and body health, and explaining the basic concepts about the essential nutrients that the body needs, such as: vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and clarifying healthy foods, such as: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and their many benefits for the health of the body. The students also touched on healthy eating habits, such as: eating regular meals and avoiding fast food.
Nutrition students also provided many tips on how to choose foods that are beneficial to the body, avoid harmful foods, and address the foundations of building a balanced diet that suits the body’s daily needs, the importance of eating balanced meals, and the role of food in improving physical and mental performance, especially for students at different stages of growth.
These lectures and awareness programmes received wide interaction from students, and aroused their interest in learning more about healthy eating habits.
After that, the nutrition students conducted physical examinations for some of the students, including measuring weight and height, and providing explanations on how to understand these measurements and follow them in a healthy way.
The visit concluded with the distribution of guidebooks containing nutritional advice for students and parents, in addition to organizing an interactive session to answer students’ questions about healthy nutrition.
Teachers and students at Al-Manhaj School praised the efforts of the nutrition students in spreading health culture, and stressed the importance of such events in educating the new generation about the importance of healthy food in building a healthy body and mind.
