In a well-deserved achievement for the University of Science and Technology of Yemen, whose main center was recently moved to Aden, and in continuation of the efforts of its administrative and academic staff, and in line with the vision and mission of the university, which is reinforced by the numbers and certificates of international university ranking institutions, the University of Science and Technology, with its main center in Aden, topped the list of Yemeni universities (governmental and private) according to the latest edition of the university evaluation issued by the Supreme Council for Scientific Research in Spain. In this context, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed / Acting President of the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden - congratulated everyone who contributed their efforts from the university’s academics, administrators, leadership, students, and parents, and all the parties that provided support represented by the local authority, the ministry, and government agencies. He explained that the university’s leading position among all Yemeni universities (governmental and private) in the Spanish classification (Webometrics) for the year 2023, The “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities”, is the result of everyone’s cooperation, noting that the new edition of the classification witnessed the university’s progress by 1017 positions over the January edition at the beginning of this year, as the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden was ranked 4715th globally according to this classification in January of this year, and the university’s ranking in July 2023 became 3698th globally, surpassing all Yemeni universities by a significant margin.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid also explained that the University of Science and Technology - Aden Center - in addition to the progress achieved by the university and the advanced ranking it has reached, whether in the position it has achieved among universities at the global, Arab, or local levels, the university has succeeded in developing at the level of the global citation rate of scientific research published internationally, stressing that the university has remained at the forefront of Yemeni universities in the Spanish classification for a long time.
The Acting President of the University explained that the Spanish classification aims primarily to encourage academic institutions in the world to present their academic and research activities that reflect their scientific level. Unlike most international classifications that are conducted once a year, this classification is published twice, at the end of January and July of each year, and is based on measuring the performance of universities according to criteria that include: the efficiency and capacity of the university’s website – links and appearance of the university’s website on other websites – the presence of various files on the website – the number of research papers published in the best international journals as well as references to them.
The Acting President of the University pointed out that the results achieved by the University in the latest international classification reflect the keenness of the University of Science and Technology - the main center in Aden - to keep pace with everything new. This achievement comes as a reflection of the continuous and tireless efforts in developing and modernizing the infrastructure, learning resources and curricula, and raising the level of the academic and administrative staff to create an educational environment that is consistent with the standards of quality and academic accreditation. The Acting President of the University pointed out that the development also included developing the research capabilities of faculty members by providing all forms of support for training and reviewing the latest scientific findings. The interest also included upgrading the human resources working in the university and developing their capabilities in various aspects.
