The University of Science and Technology discusses university outcomes and their suitability for the labor market
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed the role of Yemeni governmental and private universities in the advancement of the country by graduating efficient and qualified cadres armed with theoretical knowledge and practical skills that would enable them to enroll in the labor market. The outputs of higher education institutions for the requirements of the labor market” to the distinguished position occupied by the University of Science and Technology at the local and international levels, describing it as the mother of Yemeni private universities and an essential synonym for government universities.
The Minister of Higher Education added that the University of Science and Technology is residing at the Ministry of Higher Education at the forefront of Yemeni universities. Its capabilities and outputs have made it occupy the appropriate position, praising in the same context the initiative and initiative of the University of Science and Technology in adopting the application of the standards of the International Federation of Medical Education, which he said will put Yemeni universities to the test. In 2023 AD, he called on the rest of the universities that have medical colleges to speedily implement these international standards. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research said that the topic of this workshop does not mean universities alone, but rather needs the concerted efforts of all concerned authorities in the government and the private sector and the need for more planning and reconsideration of some programs courses and prioritization.
For his part, the President of the University of Science and Technology stressed the importance of the workshop in seeking to bridge the gap between the outputs of higher education institutions and the labor market. He reviewed the progress of the university since its establishment as a community college in 1992, and then the College of Dentistry, which came to meet a need in the community at the time, being the first dental college in Yemen, leading to an accredited university that includes a number of its own programs since its first launch and its keenness on continuous development and improvement.
Aklan indicated the University of Science’s keenness to combine the theoretical side with the practical for its students and to provide a number of training places such as the television and radio studio, the virtual court, the university hospital, field training for students, and its adoption and development of the entrepreneurship curriculum as the first Yemeni university to study this subject, which was developed in cooperation with ILO, SMEPS and aims to graduate A pioneering student capable of establishing and managing his own project. He also referred to examples of the university's outputs, which have become competitive at the regional and international levels.
For his part, the Vice President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Amanat Al-Asimah drew attention to the role of universities in supplying the local market with its needs of qualified outputs. He urged the implementation of scientific research evaluating the performance of graduates after their involvement in the market and introducing reforms to develop their capabilities according to global developments.
The participants reviewed six working papers: In the first managed session entitled “The role of higher education institutions in preparing outputs that meet the requirements of the labor market.” The second paper of the Director of Governmental Higher Education Institutions in the Ministry dealt with “the role of the Ministry of Higher Education in aligning the outputs of higher education institutions with the requirements of the labor market.” “. The third paper of the Director of Quality Assurance and Training at the Academic Accreditation Council presented the extent to which the outputs of university education are aligned with the needs of the labor market. In the second session, the fourth paper presented by the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce in Amanat Al Asimah focused on “the suitability of higher education outputs to the requirements of the labor market.” While the Executive Director of the Yemen Microfinance Network dealt with the fifth paper entitled (The Role of Microfinance Networks in Supporting Small Enterprises), and the last paper of the Assistant President of the University of Science and Technology for Academic Affairs was concerned with “measuring the educational outcomes of university graduates and their suitability to the requirements of the labor market.”
It should be noted - according to the official of the university's Alumni Club, that this workshop is a preparatory workshop for the Alumni Forum at the University of Science and Technology and the job fair to be implemented next March, which will bring together graduates with the labor market authorities in the Republic of Yemen.
