In the presence of Prof. Dr. Khaled Omar Basalim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the Educational Affairs Sector, the Department of Pharmacy - College of Medicine and Health Sciences - in cooperation with the Quality Assurance and Development Department, held a workshop to develop the Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy programs on Sunday 08-28-2023 AD, as part of the strategy of the University of Science and Technology - Main Center Aden - to develop and modernize its academic programs.
In the Ministry’s speech, Prof. Dr. Khaled Basalim praised this step, pointing to the urgent need to develop and update academic programs, especially medical programs such as pharmacy, praising the University of Science and Technology’s interest in academic development and modernization aspects. For his part, the University President, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, thanked the attendees, guests, participants, judges, graduates, and experts in his speech, stressing that the process of continuous development is one of the pillars on which the university’s distinction and leadership are based.
On the other hand, the Director of the Quality Assurance and Development Department, Dr. Mohammed Al-Shamiri, pointed out that the program development plan includes a group of university programs that need to be developed based on the quality policies followed, focusing his speech on the fact that development is carried out in accordance with local and international references.
Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Dr. Abdullah Al-Nasi, welcomed the guests in his speech, praising the work team and the development committee, as this workshop was the result of their diligent work, in what was done in the development process of the two programs, stressing the university and the department’s awareness of all the changes and updates in the pharmaceutical fields and the necessity of keeping pace with them in a way that contributes to creating distinguished pharmaceutical outputs.
After that, Prof. Dr. Mahfouz Al-Masli, Head of the Development Committee, gave a presentation that included a quick summary of the development justifications and references. It also included the study plan, focusing on what was added, modified, or deleted.
During the workshop, the participating experts and students enriched the discussion about what was developed in the program, and followed up on all the amendments made to it in light of the references. The participating experts expressed their admiration for what was done, and for the achievements made by the university in the field of program development, as it is the cornerstone of academic development as a whole.
The opening session was attended by the University Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Muammar Al-Qatibi, the University Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Munir Al-Abadi, and the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Fatima Qahtan.
It is worth noting that the workshop was attended by many internal and external experts, in addition to faculty members from the university and many Yemeni universities, representatives of the labor market (pharmaceutical companies - hospitals - pharmacies - pharmaceutical factories), some final-level students, and a group of university graduates.
