Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is one of the core programmes offered by the Department of Health Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology. The programme aims to prepare highly qualified medical laboratory specialists equipped with advanced scientific knowledge and practical competencies across various fields of medical diagnostics, including microbiology, biochemistry, haematology, and immunology. The programme places strong emphasis on intensive practical training, integrating theoretical knowledge with contemporary clinical applications in hospital laboratories and diagnostic centres. Course Plan
The Medical Laboratory Sciences programme at the University of Science and Technology – Aden is delivered over four academic years, comprising eight semesters and a total of 138 credit hours. These credit hours are distributed across theoretical and practical courses, as well as dedicated components for field training and scientific research.
The programme emphasises the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application across the fields of microbiology, clinical chemistry, haematology, immunology, and medical parasitology.
The programme includes mandatory clinical training in accredited hospitals and medical laboratories, in addition to a graduation research project conducted under academic supervision. Specialised courses are delivered in English, while selected university requirements and general courses are taught in Arabic. This bilingual approach is intended to promote deeper understanding and enhance students’ linguistic flexibility.
