The University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, received the Ambassador of the French Republic to Yemen, Ms. Catherine Corm, and the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy, Ms. Lee Giffard, on Wednesday, 10/16/2024.
The French Ambassador and the Cultural Attaché were received by the Acting President of the University, Prof. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, the Assistant President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Muammar Al-Qatibi, the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Fatima Qahtan, the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Nasr Al-Saqqaf, and the Director of the Marketing and Public Relations Department, Dr. Samir Muthanna.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Acting President of the University, Prof. Abdul Ghani Hamid Ahmed, welcomed the Ambassador and the Cultural Attaché at the French Embassy in Yemen, expressing his happiness with this visit. In his opening speech, he explained the university's persistent efforts to build cooperative and partnership relations with universities, institutions, and scientific and research centers locally and internationally, pointing out the importance of this cooperation in benefiting from pioneering experiences in developing academic and research work, expanding contributions to social responsibility, and benefiting more specifically in the fields of leadership and innovation and keeping pace with future needs.
For her part, French Ambassador Catherine Corm pointed out the importance of the partnership between universities, and that this visit comes within the framework of reactivating joint cooperation with French universities in various educational and research fields, and discussing ways of cooperation with the University of Science and Technology in related development and cultural projects.
The meeting included a comprehensive presentation about the University of Science and Technology, in which Dr. Fatima Qahtan, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, discussed the development of the university from its inception until the present time, its achievements throughout its journey, and the most important foundations that contributed effectively to the continuity of the university and overcoming the challenges it faced, reviewing the social responsibility that the university has achieved in all its stages.
The visit concluded with an introductory tour of the university and a visit to the business incubator in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, where a group of students gave a brief explanation of some of the projects that were completed in the incubator, reviewed their prototypes, and clarified the possibility of implementing them inside and outside the university, with a quick look at the first and second hackathon project, which was held in the incubator for participants from within the university, with the participation of many different universities and schools.
