Students of the Therapeutic Nutrition and Dietetics Program at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Science and Technology - Main Center, Aden, made a field visit to the Autism Children's Association in Aden; with the aim of supporting children with autism and educating their parents on how to deal with them.
During the visit, Professor of Therapeutic Nutrition and Dietetics, Dr. Manal Abdeen, gave an awareness lecture on dealing with children with autism.
The visit included the Therapeutic Nutrition students conducting educational sessions for supervisors and some parents about proper nutrition for children with autism. The students also conducted nutritional assessments for some autistic children to develop customized nutritional plans for each child according to his needs.
The students also toured the association’s facilities, where they learned about the educational and recreational activities and programmes offered by the association to support autistic children.
The visit concluded with the mothers filling out questionnaires about their autistic children, and providing specialized nutritional advice about their children. The supervisors were advised to contact the therapeutic nutrition students by phone to obtain specialized nutritional advice about autistic children whose mothers were unable to attend.
