Within the scientific activities held by the University of Science and Technology - Main Center - Aden, the Department of Health Sciences held on Saturday 06-17-2023 a scientific discussion of the graduation projects for the Medical Laboratories, Therapeutic Nutrition and Diets programs. At the beginning of the event, Prof. Dr. Abdulghani Hamid, President of the University, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, parents of students and guests. He also touched on the importance of community partnership between higher education institutions, health and educational institutions and various other institutions. He stressed the importance of scientific research as the basis that will advance society, and thanked all health and educational institutions that contributed to the success of the scientific activities of university students in general and health sciences in particular.
For her part, Dr. Fatima Qahtan, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, expressed her thanks to the students participating in the event, stressing the importance of improving the health situation by adopting policies that serve the community and focusing on the importance of scientific research and its role in addressing the problems and concerns of society.
After that, the scientific discussion began for 6 research papers in the fields of medical laboratories, therapeutic nutrition, and diets. They addressed health problems suffered by society and came out with important recommendations and proposals. The titles of the research papers were as follows:
1. Vitamin D status among female students at the University of Science and Technology, Aden, Yemen.
2. Study the social and economic level on children’s nutrition and its impact on the educational level in Aden Governorate.
3. Evaluation of general blood parameters in patients infected with Helicobacter pylori in Aden city.
4. Pathogenic bacteria isolated from urine of diabetic patients and drug sensitivity tests in hospitals in Aden city, Yemen.
5. Assessment of the nutritional status, knowledge and practices of breastfeeding women and their infants in Aden Governorate.
6. Seroprevalence of Brucellosis and knowledge, attitudes and practices of livestock keepers in Mansoura District, Aden.
The discussion committees praised the research topics, their diversity and importance, and the distinguished research methods and approaches they covered. Some comments and clarifications were directed for improvement.
At the end of the event, the Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Head of the Department of Health Sciences, and members of the organizing committee honored a group of health cadres from the governorates of Aden and Lahj who provide distinguished services to the health sector in general and to students of the Department of Health Sciences in particular.
The discussion was attended by the Director of the Oncology Center, the Director of the Central Laboratory, the Director of Ibn Khaldoun Hospital, the President of Al-Riyada University, the Assistant Academic Vice President of Aden University, the Director of Certifications at the Ministry of Higher Education, the Syndicate of Medical Professions, a number of representatives of private and public laboratories and medical institutions, and heads of laboratory departments at private universities in Aden.
