On Thursday morning, 8/17/2023, the University of Science and Technology held a discussion session on entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises, as part of the university’s plans for the academic year 2023-2024 by establishing the Entrepreneurship Center as the first center specialized in entrepreneurship at the level of Yemeni universities. At the beginning of the workshop, Professor Ibrahim Madhesh, Deputy Director of the Branch, welcomed Dr. Muhammad Omar Batawih and faculty members, and stressed that this session comes within the framework of the university’s efforts to enhance the pioneering role at all levels inside and outside the university.
During the workshop, Dr. Mohammed Batouih delivered a speech in which he highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in economic development and the role of small and medium enterprises in creating job opportunities and achieving economic growth. He stressed the need to provide the appropriate environment for the growth of entrepreneurship, through providing financing, training, and technical support.
Batouih added information about the idea of the Entrepreneurship Center and small and medium enterprises in various fields and spreading the culture of entrepreneurship in university circles and providing qualitative training for faculty members at the university as well as students, and that there are qualitative programs that will be trained on and also enable entrepreneurs by providing job opportunities and an incubating environment for them after graduation or to continue their projects and start engaging in the labor market, adding that the center will be ready to support entrepreneurs with ideas and discuss projects and add ideas and methods to support them and spread the culture of entrepreneurship as it is one of the center’s goals.
Mr. Saeed Bahfi, the Financial and Administrative Director, added that the Center for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises will support the University of Science and Technology and the students in particular, as they are one of the pillars of entrepreneurial work so that they become the entrepreneurs who are pointed to with the finger.
The workshop was attended by the heads of the scientific departments in the branch, as they are the main supporter of the success of the Entrepreneurship Center, educating students and attracting existing talents, as the center will serve as a business incubator for students and all university members, as well as the outside community.
The workshop was attended by the heads of the university’s academic departments, who were impressed by the idea of the center and discussed many proposals that could contribute to the success of the Entrepreneurship Center’s work, as we are in an era of development and technology due to new inventions and artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that Hadhramout University of Science and Technology is one of the leading universities in Yemen in the field of entrepreneurship, as it offers many programs and initiatives that support small and medium-sized business owners.
