Early Foundation of The University

The Yemeni University of Science and Technology (USTY) was established earlier in 1994 as the National College of Science and Technology. It is a private, non-profit university that has experienced tremendous growth and development over the years. For the past several years now, it has been voted as the best private university in Yemen.


Through careful academic planning, it has become a major provider of higher education in Yemen, standing face to face even with major public universities.


It has a modern teaching hospital that also provides medical care to the public. The School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Collegiate Business Schools (AACSB). In cooperation with foreign universities, it runs undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Its own academic programs have experienced an expansion, and it now has eight colleges: College of Medicine and Health Sciences – College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy – College of Dentistry – College of Administrative Sciences – College of Humanities and Social Sciences – College of Open Education – and the College of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.


The establishment of the College of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research emphasizes the focus and focus on developing human potential in Yemen. USTY believes that for Yemen to change, it must have trained human resources at higher levels. At the moment it has 3 programs at doctoral level and 15 programs at masters level. Through active research by faculty and the work done by graduate students for a master's degree or doctoral thesis, USTY will eventually earn the rank of a research university.


USTY also has five branches across Yemen, a special branch for girls in Sana'a where USTY provides separate education for both girls and boys, and sixteen centers for learning, research and counseling. It also has several coordinated learning offices around the world that support distance learning programmes.

It renewed its academic programs to be modern, and introduced a foundation year, as well as a range of undergraduate courses to give a balanced perspective to students. USTY emphasizes the use of Arabic and English as it sees the two languages as becoming very important in the near future.


Today, the university has achieved a presence and an active member in major educational associations such as the Association of Arab Universities, Arab Higher Education Institutions, the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, the Federation of International Universities, the Arab Network for Open and Distance Education, a member of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), And a member of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL). Member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Its links with foreign universities in China, Malaysia, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy have led to student exchange, staff exchange, joint research, and international conferences in Yemen.


Also important is the work USTY does to the community which has had a significant impact on poverty eradication, community/public health, and the improvement of childbirth and maternal care, and thus leads to better community development. Work is underway to establish a center for civil society organizations, which will lead the university's role in development.
